The monument to Victor Emmanuel II was built in 1885-1935 according to the design of the Italian architect Giuseppe Sacconi. The monument is located on the slope of the Capitol and is named after the first king of united Italy, Victor Emmanuel II. Part of the monument is a bronze monument to the king, under which is the tomb of the Unknown Soldier - "Altar of the Fatherland". There are two fountains in front of the building, symbolizing the Adriatic and Tyrrhenian seas. Around the monument are six statues representing the "Values ​​of the Italians".
