Coliseum

Colosseus, Colosseum, Coliseum, Colosseo
Italy, Rome
The Colosseum is an amphitheater, one of the largest arenas, an architectural monument of Ancient Rome. Construction was carried out for 8 years, in 72 - 80 years as a collective building of the emperors of the Flavian dynasty. It is located in a hollow between the Esquiline, Palatine and Caelievsky hills, in the place where there was a pond that belonged to the Golden House of Nero.

Just a sea of impressions from the beauty and grandeur of the Colosseum. I want to come back here again and again, slowly walking through every nook and cranny, touching the history of the past. A place where time is lost and breathtaking. Gorgeous photos and unforgettable memories are guaranteed. I have been there for a long time, but I want to go back there again. The Colosseum is the most impressive building in Rome. This huge amphitheater could accommodate up to 5.000 spectators.

My husband and I visited the Colosseum in January 2020. We took an audio guide in Russian. We didn't get too excited, but we liked it. The main horror that those who want to visit the Colosseum face is the queue, but I want to share my experience on how to avoid it. Buy tickets to the Colosseum near the Roman Forum and take a "Full experience" ticket (22 euros per person) - the visit to the Roman Forum + Palatina + Colosseum is included and is valid for 2 days. There is a simple ticket for 16 euros per person and everything is included, but the difference is that for 22 euros you go without a queue (not at the main entrance) and you are taken to the Colosseum arena (there is no entrance to the arena for simple tickets) .

We were in early October, got on 1 free Sunday, the queue to the Colosseum was 2-3 hours. We decided not to stand. But as it turned out, after a couple of days people stood in line for tickets at the box office, which is located exactly in the Colosseum. And the ticket office, which is opposite it, closer to the Forum, almost without a queue. And if you buy a ticket in it, then you immediately go in, bypassing this crowd. We decided to buy tickets in the Palatine, we thought after it to go to the Colosseum, but on the ticket it is displayed yesterday to visit the Colosseum (10-15 minutes from the time of buying the ticket), so we had to return and go without a queue to the Colosseum.

I will not argue that the Colosseum is something incredible. There is the same unique spirit of antiquity and gladiators. However, I personally did not have enough curiosities, for example, entertaining actions ...reproduction of demonstration gladiatorial fights, etc. I was a little bored of walking in a circle and watching. But the building itself is fascinating

There are probably a dozen people all over the world who have never heard of the Colosseum. Too bad it didn't survive in its entirety. Therefore, it is more interesting to go inside with a tour than on your own. Photos taken from the hill of Oppius.
