Cemetery of Campo Verano

Cimitero del Verano, Campo Verano
Italy, Rome
Campo Verano is a functioning cemetery founded in 1812 and located on the territory of an ancient Catholic church of the 6th century. Over the years, various architects and sculptors worked on the appearance of this monumental complex. On the graves of the deceased there are many different sculptures from small to huge, each of them is unique in beauty and unusualness. Here are buried public and church leaders of different faiths, as well as victims of the Second World War.

If you come to Rome for a long time, it will be hard to limit yourself to the Vatican, the Colosseum and the Trevi Fountain. Rome is rich in attractions, and you can wander there for months. One of my favorite, not the most touristy attractions is Campo verano Cemetery. Alleys of beautiful statues, majestic crypts, names inscribed in history. In general, the city cemeteries of ancient cities carry a part of the cultural heritage that you will not get acquainted with - a crime for a real traveler.
