The imposing building of Palazzo Massimo was built in the second half of the 19th century. architect Camillo Pistrucci. It was designed as an aristocratic palace for the princes Massimo. A museum was opened in the palace building in 1998, which is currently part of the
National Museum of Rome. The museum's collection consists of various exhibits arranged according to typology on four floors of the building. On the basement and first floors there are antique sculptures, on the second floor there are wall frescoes of amazing beauty and execution, mosaic floors and other interior items of prestigious Roman villas. On the underground floor there is a collection of jewelry and coins from antiquity to the 19th century. Here you can see portraits, busts and statues of the republican and imperial nobility, as well as the mummy of a girl with jewelry made of precious stones and ivory for her doll.
