Ancient Roman city of Ostia Antica

Ostia Antica, Ancient Ostia, Archaeological site of Ostia
Italy, Rome
The ancient Roman city of Ostia, according to legend, was founded by King Ank Marcius in the 7th century BC. The city was a port of ancient Rome for a long time, but due to severe floods and the spread of diseases, Ostia fell into decay even before the beginning of the Middle Ages. Currently, Ostia Antica is a large archaeological complex open to the public.

If you love ancient architecture, and in Rome all the forums, the Palatine and Apian Way, etc. , have already been studied, I advise you to come to Ostia Antica. Getting there is very easy. Metro to st. Piramida, and then take the train to Ostia Antica station. Cross the road over the bridge and you can see it there. We were in the summer and there is a lot of greenery, it's nice to take a walk, see ancient mosaics, sit on the stones of the amphitheater. I don't think a guide is needed, get ready from home, the territory is not very large, and everything is signed.
