Villa Ciza
La Zisa, Villa Zisa, Zisa
Italy, Palermo
Cisa is a medieval villa in the western part of the city of Palermo, a monument of the Arab-Norman style.
The construction of the villa was started in the 12th century by Arab craftsmen for King William I of Sicily, but only his son William II the Good accepted the completed project. The villa was conceived as the summer residence of the Norman kings, as part of a large hunting area known as Genoard (Paradise on Earth), which also included the Cube Palace and a couple of other buildings.
Currently, the rooms of the villa house Islamic works of art, as well as many artifacts from the Mediterranean regions. The most impressive is the central hall, decorated with lovely mosaics.
