Cuba is a country palace of the Sicilian kings in Palermo, a monument of the Arab-Norman style.
Cuba was built by the Sicilian king William II the Good (1166-1189) in the vicinity of Palermo, on the road leading to the royal residence and monastery under construction Monreale. Cuba was set up in a hunting park on an island in the middle of an artificial rectangular pond. Local craftsmen built a palace in the Arab-Norman style for the king, who appreciated the oriental way of life.
After the loss of independence by Sicily, Cuba passed into the hands of various owners, in 1576-1621 a hospital was equipped here, in the 18th-19th centuries a cavalry regiment was stationed under the Bourbons. Currently, Cuba belongs to the government of the autonomous region of Sicily, and there is a museum of Arabic art here.
