Church of San Cataldo
San Cataldo, Chiesa di San Cataldo
Italy, Palermo
San Cataldo is a mosque-like church in Palermo, located in Piazza Bellini, next to the Martoran temple. A characteristic monument of Arab-Norman architecture, which absorbed typical Byzantine and Arab features.
This church does not resemble any monument in Palermo, but in Apulia and North Africa there are a large number of churches and mosques, architecturally similar to San Cataldo; several similar churches have been preserved in insular Greece and Cyprus. Researchers see a distinct Arab influence in the architecture of San Cataldo and similar structures.
