Chapel of San Severo - a museum, in the past a private chapel and the tomb of the noble Sangro family - the princes of San Severo. Inside the museum-temple there are marble tombstones of princes, with sculptural allegorical images of various virtues. The pearl of the chapel is the sculpture “Christ under the Shroud”, created in 1753 by the novice sculptor Giuseppe Sanmartino, who became famous after the completion of the work. Above the altar is a marble sculpture "Descent from the Cross" with the face of Christ, made of metal. Opposite each other, near the walls of the chapel, there are sculptures “Chastity” and “Getting rid of the spell”, allegorically showing, respectively, the mother and father of Raimondo, the
… seventh prince of San Severo, who gave the chapel its final look. In addition to them, in the museum you can see about 20 sculptures dedicated to other members of the large princely family. Read completely ↓
