Built in the Norman style in the twelfth century on the remains of a Byzantine cemetery. As a result of repeated earthquakes it was significantly rebuilt. The last restoration took place in 1927-1931. The entrance portal of the cathedral is decorated with an arch of blocks of volcanic tuff. The same arches are located on the side wall. The main shrine of the cathedral is the icon of St. Mary of Romania. Prominent citizens of the city are buried in the crypts of the cathedral, including the family of the philosopher Galluppi.→
