Villa Colombaia
Museo Luchino Visconti, Villa La Colombaia
Italy, Ischia
In the resort town of Forio, between the sea, the sky and the forest, stands on a high cliff an old white house with battlements over the roof, lancet arches of the terraces, a magnificent rose garden and the strange name "Dovecote". It was built at the end of the 19th century by the famous Italian poet and public figure Luigi Patalano, but Villa Colombaia is associated not with his name, but with the name of the cult director Luchino Visconti, who bought this “medieval castle” in the middle of the last century and lived here until his death.
Now it is a house-museum that houses Visconti film awards, costumes and scenery for his films, photographs and other memorabilia - about 300 exhibits in total. Every July, the Luchino Visconti Festival of Arts is held in the amphitheater of the villa, and in the near future they plan to open the International School of Theater and Film here.
