The original house was lined with rust and looked like a fortress; was located on a slope, and the courtyard was turned into a garden. But Pitty did not have enough money to complete the palace. Niccolo Machiavelli pointed out that Pitti did not stop at anything to raise money for construction and accepted gifts, bribes, even criminals for work. The Medici family won the political and financial confrontation, seizing the palazzo and forcing Pitti to emigrate. Today, the Palazzo is the largest museum in Florence.→
