In 1640, the Order of the Filipinos received as a gift from Pope Urban VIII a plot of land with houses and the ancient church of San Fiorenzo, which is mentioned in 1174. The monks planned to build a large complex - a church, a monastery and an oratory - in honor of the canonized in 1622, the Florentine saint Philip Neri, the founder of the order. Much of the money for the construction was inherited from Giuliano Serragli, who died in 1648. The complex was built in 1667 according to the project and under the direction of architect Pierrot Francesco Silvani.→
