Villa Melzi

Melzi d'Eril, Villa Melzi d'Eril
Italy, Como
Villa Melzi, near the city of Bellagio on Lake Como, was built at the beginning of the 19th century by the architect Giocondo Albertonelli for Duke Francesco Melzi d'Eril, vice-president of the Cisalpine Republic and ally of Napoleon I Bonaparte. The villa, built in the neoclassical style, liked to stay Stendhal and Franz Liszt. Currently, the villa is the property of Count Galarati Scotty and only the beautiful landscaped park-garden around it is open to the public. When creating the park, it was necessary to pour hills in some of its parts, and to level the ground in others.
All the plants in the park are planted in such a way as to create a visual illusion of depth and space; sculptures and columns of the Renaissance and classicism are placed among them. Here grow such rare species of trees as Montezuma pines, cypresses, palms, oleanders, Lebanese cedars, sequoias. In the center is a Japanese pond with water lilies and goldfish, surrounded by Japanese maples and cedars. In the far corner of the park, on the terrace above the villa, is the chapel-tomb of the Melzi family. In the building of the former greenhouse, a small museum has been organized with exhibits from the time of Napoleon: maps of Milan, keys to its main gates, frescoes and portraits.

Where all three branches of Lake Como meet, in the heart of the lake lies the charming town of Bellagio. It is not for nothing that the first settlers chose this place in ancient times - the mild climate, rich nature, more than 200 sunny days a year and the opportunity to admire the wide panorama of the lake from above gradually turned the small town into a luxurious resort. About Bellagio - http://www.turpravda.ua/it/como_lake/blog-185487.html They say that the fate of Bellagio was completely changed by an event, at first glance, quite insignificant: Duke Francesco Melzi d'Eril, Vice-President of the First Italian Republic, an associate of Napoleon, decided to build a country villa for his family here.
