The elegant Gothic building was designed by architect Antonio di Vincenzo between 1384 and 1391. Earlier, the Customs building was located on the site of this palace. The Loggia Carrobbeau (1384) was first built, uniting three buildings that had previously belonged to the Customs. Then the work was continued, Florentine masons were invited. By 1391, construction was completed. The building hosted court hearings of merchants, and also housed the offices of some corporations and guilds. Disputes between traders were resolved by a judge, assisted by 5 consuls from among the merchants.→
