The Palace of Notaries is located in the heart of Bologna, in Piazza Maggiore. The palace was created by combining two buildings that already belonged to a corporation of notaries. The right wing, older, dates back to 1287. The left wing, overlooking the Basilica of St. Petronius, was built during the expansion of 1384-1388. Six magnificent windows with small marble partitions were designed by Antonio di Vincenzo (1385). The facade of the palace, overlooking the Accursio Palace, was rebuilt in about the same style in 1437 (Bartolomeo Fioravanti).

Over the centuries, the building has been rebuilt many times. In 1908, under the leadership of Alfonso Rubbiani, a complete restoration of the palace was carried out. The artist Akille Casanova painted the caisson ceiling during the restoration works according to the available documents.
The Palace of Notaries was an archive, which stored documents on the sale of land and real estate, as well as wills, documents on inheritance. Now the building is occupied by city services.

The rectangular building is divided into three floors. Porticoes open on the high ground floor. The second floor consists of monophores. The third floor of the facade overlooking the Palace d? The accursio is decorated with gothic biphorae by Antonio di Vincenzo. On the main faç ade there is an emblem of notaries: three inkwells with goose feathers. This coat of arms was added to Rubbiani. The roof of the building is decorated with teeth. Inside the palace are preserved frescoes of the 15th century.
