The Augustinian fathers laid the foundation stone for the church in 1267. The work was completed in 1315, and in the fifteenth century Pietro da Brens underwent reconstruction. In 1319-1336, the Chapel of Santa Cecilia was built inside the Augustine complex, commissioned by Bentivoli. The frescoes in the chapel depicting the history of Saint Cecilia were made by masters of this level, such as Francesco France, Lorenzo Costa, Cesare Tamarochi, Gian Maria Ciodarolo and Amico Aspertini, who are some of the most famous artists who lived in Bologna in the fifteenth century.→
