The first thing you see when you get to this place is, of course, the 37-meter Shiva sitting in the lotus position. The sizer is simply dumbfounded - you stand with your mouth open, contemplating this whopper! So what, what's new? The impression is not sickly! This hulk was built by a well-known construction tycoon, a native of these places. Under the statue there is a room in which colorful sculptural compositions are arranged in a circle, very clearly illustrating the part of the Mahabharata, which tells about the demonic king Ravana, who desired to receive a lingam that gives immortality and great power (we saw something similar in a Buddhist temple in Sri Lanka, but it was a completely different story. ) We were then taken to a much smaller Shiva temple. But on the other hand, it is really ancient (built in the 15th century), although it was restored relatively recently. Very blissful atmosphere - the ringing of bells, gentle music and the smell of incense!
Of course, we performed some rituals, asked Shiva for something, rang the bells, smeared something red on our foreheads. Exotic romantic! We liked. To top it off, there was an elevator ride to the gopuram tower (184 m). The tower itself is also a remake, but due to its colossal size and decoration, it is very impressive. The entrance to it is guarded by two life-size statues of elephants. From the top of the tower, you can take an absolutely amazing picture of Shiva and the entire temple complex. Postcards with such a picture are sold by boys, very annoying. From our hotel, located near Colva on Betalbatim beach, it takes 4 hours to get here. Therefore, I won’t put 10, but 9 - yes!
