Fort Cabo de Rama
Cabo de Rama Fort
India, South Goa
The fort is a fortress in the village of Canacona, which is located in South Goa and was built on a cape named after Lord Rama. According to legend, in exile, Rama came to this place. From the western part of the fortress offers a beautiful view of the coast and the Arabian Sea.
The fort was at the mercy of many rulers, but in 1763 it was given to the Portuguese. Restored by the conquerors, the fort was dominated by the British in 1792-1802, and then in 1803-1813.
Until today, the main entrance of the fortress has been well preserved. The walls of the fort are gradually being destroyed. There is a small church inside the fort. In the building of the fortress until 1955 there was a prison. Now the fort is of no value, only sometimes scientists from the National Institute of Oceanography look here for the purpose of research.
Cabo de Rama Fort can only be reached by your own vehicle. Local buses do not go here. But the trip is attractive because the fort offers a breathtaking view of the surroundings, especially at sunset.
