Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary
Salim Ali bird Sanctuary, Salim Ali bird Sanctuary
India, North Goa
The reserve is located three kilometers from Panjim, on the island of Chorao. It covers an area of 1.78 square kilometers and is the smallest in Goa. The reserve is covered with lush vegetation. Mangrove trees grow throughout its area. Small tributaries and internal streams cut the area of the reserve into neat islands.
Despite its small size, the reserve accommodates local and migratory birds from other countries every year. It got its name in honor of Dr. Salim Ali, the famous Indian ornithologist.
Visiting this bird sanctuary is a new trend in the state's tourism industry. To explore the reserve, it is recommended to take a motor boat and go in search of rare bird species.
