Fontanhas quarter
Fontainehas, Bairro das Fontainehas, Fontainehas
India, North Goa
The old Latin quarter of Fontanhas in Panaji has been declared a cultural heritage site, where traditional culture and architecture have been preserved for this area. It is located in the river area. The architecture of the area is full of terracotta tiled facades, a style that emerged after the Portuguese period, when the Portuguese insisted that only the church could be white. In 1818, the first chapel of St. Sebastian was built in Fontanhas. There is also the famous Tobacco Square, which received this name because of the brisk tobacco trade.
