India, North Goa
The Church of St. Francis of Assisi is part of the complex of the Cathedral of St. Catherine and is located in the city of Old Goa. Many temples and chapels are built here, and this church is one of the most visited. It was built in 1661 to honor the famous Saint Francis of Assisi, the founder of the Franciscan order.
In the church you can see the inscription "Poverty, modesty and obedience." At one time, Francis of Assisi invited wealthy Catholic monks to give up luxury and live according to the gospel covenants. Many people accepted these postulates, because they were more in line with the teachings of Christ than the rich life of the bishops, cardinals and rectors of those years. In the church of Francis of Assisi, all these stages of the life of the saint are presented in the form of paintings.
