The mausoleum of Itemad-ud-Dauly on the banks of the Jamna (Yamuna) River is considered the prototype of the Taj Mahal, it is sometimes called the "Small Taj". It is a tomb with surrounding buildings and gates in a beautiful garden. The construction of the tomb was carried out from 1622 to 1628, by order of Nur Jahan, the wife of Emperor Jahangir for her father Mirza Ghiyas Beg, the former ruler of Persia, but who found himself in exile in India during the time of the Great Mughals. He earned the title of Itemad-ud-Daulah - "pillar of the state", which is reflected in the name of the mausoleum, and was the great-grandfather of Mumtaz Mahal, for whom Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal, hence the continuity of the appearance of the mausoleums.→
