Yardenite

Yardenit
Israel, Tiberias
Yardenit is an exit point south of Tiberias, downstream, the Jordan River from the Sea of Galilee, the place of the symbolic rite of baptism of Orthodox and Catholics. The exact location of the baptism of Jesus by St. John the Baptist is located nearby, but in the border zone between Israel and Jordan, so in 1981 Yardenit was chosen by the Israeli government as a ritual site. All conditions are created here for pilgrims coming for the baptism ceremony.
Comfortable slopes lead to the Jordan River, dressing rooms are equipped, a souvenir shop is open where you can buy white baptismal clothes for the ceremony, you can relax in the evening restaurant, enjoy the natural views and the coolness of the river. Tilapia, carp, catfish and nutria are found in the waters of the Jordan near Yardenit, which tourists like to feed.

A video tour of the surroundings of the Lake of Galilee, including Yardenit, can be viewed here https://youtu. be/8b_T9IbZz88 There are two places in Israel where people are usually taken to the Jordan. The first is Yardenite. The second is on the border with Jordan. There is a lot of greenery in Yardenit, the water is more pleasant (although muddy here and there). But there are more people. To plunge into the Jordan, white clothes are required. Therefore, either take them with you, or you can buy or rent on the spot (quite expensive).

A wonderful historical place with very beautiful and picturesque nature attracts pilgrims and tourists from all over the world. Many world celebrities were baptized here. Still - Yardenit is considered a symbolic place where John baptized Jesus Christ and where the Holy Spirit descended on the Savior in the form of a dove. The real place of baptism is located in the village of Vifara (now Qasr el-Yahud), which is now located on the territory of modern Jordan. Yardenit is a diminutive of Yarden, which in Hebrew means Jordan or Jordan River.

The Yardenit complex is located near Tiberias and the source of the Holy Jordan River from the Sea of Galilee, Israel's largest body of fresh water. This quiet backwater is chosen as a place of pilgrimage for those wishing to be cleansed and baptized in the sacred waters of the Jordan. At the entrance to the complex on the wall there are excerpts from the gospel story in different languages about the Baptism of Christ, although modern archaeological excavations indicate another likely place for this significant event.
