The Monastery of the Holy Cross is located in the western part of the city near the
Israel Museum. It was founded at the beginning of the 4th century by Georgian monks. The monastery has a rich history, it was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt, and acquired its modern look, reminiscent of a powerful fortress, at the end of the 19th century. It is also known for its frescoes, made by painters at the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries.
