Church of the Holy Sepulcher

Jerusalem Temple of the Resurrection of Christ, Church of the Holy Sepulchre
Israel, Jerusalem
The Jerusalem Temple of the Resurrection of Christ stands on the spot where, according to church tradition, Jesus Christ was crucified, buried, and then resurrected. The ceremony of the convergence of the Holy Fire is held annually in the temple.

The modern Church of the Holy Sepulcher is a huge architectural complex, including Golgotha with the place of the Crucifixion, the rotunda - an architectural structure with a huge dome, under which is located Kuvukliya, Katholikon, or the Cathedral Church, which is the cathedral for the Patriarchs of the Jerusalem Orthodox Church, the underground Church of the Finding of the Life-Giving Cross, Church of St. Helena Equal-to-the-Apostles and several aisles. On the territory of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher there are several active monasteries, it includes many auxiliary premises, galleries, etc.

The temple is divided between six denominations of the Christian church: Greek Orthodox, Catholic, Armenian, Coptic, Syrian and Ethiopian, each of which has its own chapels and hours for prayers.

The Church of the Holy Sepulcher keeps a long history, so I classify this place as a “must see”. The temple has been rebuilt many times and, of course, now it looks different. Nevertheless, people did not abandon him to their will, but continue to rebuild and cherish. I think this place must be visited without noisy guides, huge groups and haste, because it’s corny you won’t be able to enjoy it. It is difficult to describe the feeling of this place in words, but you leave from there with such a supply of energy, you feel serene, or something.

After going all the way of Christ to Golgotha (Via Dolorosa) - we approached the Church of the Holy Sepulcher - the place where Christ was crucified, buried in a cave and then resurrected! Every year, the whole world of believers with faith and hope watches the descent of the blessed fire in this temple. How the people inside the temple rejoice, who were lucky enough to be near this fertile place! And here I am! Walk with me through the streets of the old city of Jerusalem, I really wish you to visit here at least once.

we went from Sharm with a guided tour (it’s the cheapest), the place is unusual, interesting, but it’s better to go not during church holidays, as a lot of people from all over the world go to see

The Church of the Resurrection of Christ, which is not yet quite correctly called the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, contains Kuvuklia under the dome of the rotunda, where, according to established opinion, the body of Christ was located and where every year a huge number of believers meet the descent of the Holy Fire before Easter. Most recently, a large-scale reconstruction took place here, accompanied by the opening of the tombstone and historical research. I visited there when the work was still going on.

This place made a special moving impression on me. Getting into the Temple, from the first step you are filled with some special reverence and quivering delight. This feeling did not leave me for a long time after our group left the temple. Here you want to move slowly, to speak in a whisper or not to speak at all - what are the words for? Here is twilight, the smell of incense and myrrh, the flickering light of candles, reflected in the icons and gilding of jewelry, here every centimeter of the floor, every pebble, bears its own thousand-year history .
