Taman Ayun Temple
Pura Taman Ayun, Pura Taman Ayun
Indonesia, Ubud Bali
Taman Ayun was built in 1634 in Mengwi and was the main one in the entire kingdom of the same name until 1891.
A distinctive feature of the temple is the many pagodas that rise above the inner temple courtyard. Thus, they symbolize Mount Mahameru, sacred to Hindus, which is the axis of the whole world and stands in the very center of the Universe. It is on this mountain that the Supreme Deity and the souls of dead people live. The temple was subjected to a large-scale restoration in 1937, which also affected the appearance, which was significantly updated.
