Agung is the highest volcano in Bali. The maximum height is 3142 m. It is a geographical dominant, influencing the climate.
The mountain is sacred to the Balinese. When the volcano last erupted in 1963, it was at that time that the very important religious festival Eka Desa, which takes place once a century, took place. Naturally, the inhabitants of the island felt that they had somehow angered the gods, since the destruction during the eruption of Agung was very significant. Only the Besakih temple was not damaged. Climbing the mountain itself lasts almost six hours.
