The ancient city of Amlapura

On the east coast of Bali is one of the architectural gems of the island and a popular attraction in Bali today - the ancient city of Amlapura with its royal palaces. Amlapura in the past was the capital of the kingdom of Karangasem, founded at the end of the 17th century, and at the beginning of the 19th century it turned into the strongest state in Bali. After the arrival of the Dutch, Karangasem did not offer much resistance to the colonialists, so that the palaces of Amlapura were not destroyed.
For tourists, only the Puri Agung Palace, which once served as a royal residence, is open. Through the three-leaf gate in the form of a pagoda with Balinese carvings, visitors to the palace enter the courtyard, where there are several buildings. This is the Bale London pavilion, the furniture inside of which is marked with the coat of arms of the British royal dynasty; Maskerdam (a reference to Amsterdam) is the main building of Puri Agung; pavilion Kampang near a wonderful reservoir; between this reservoir and Maskerdam is the Pemandesan pavilion, where members of the royal family were cremated.
