The history of this hotel dates back to the end of the seventeenth century. Local farmer Andr? s Bika bought up the land and the old building. He rebuilt the building into a tavern and a hotel. The place turned out to be very popular and profitable, so an additional floor had to be completed. In 1810, a brand name made of shiny copper - a bull - appeared on the facade of the building, and the hotel received its name Aranybika (Golden Bull). The Hungarian architect Imre Steindl in 1882 rebuilt the building and added a café and a restaurant. The new two-story hotel building has become the center of cultural life in Debrecen. The modern Art Nouveau building of the hotel appeared in 1915 thanks to the architect and the first Hungarian Olympic swimming champion Alfr? d Haj? s. A spacious hall and a conference room were added. In 1976 a modern extension was added. Throughout its history, the hotel has hosted a number of famous cultural figures and politicians ( Istv? n Sz? chenyi, Ferenc Kossuth, Zsigmond M? ricz, B? la Mikl? s, Imre Nagy, Magda Szab? , Helmut Kohl)
