The monument was first erected on May 21.1935 and was a bronze equestrian statue on a massive marble pedestal. Arthur George sits calmly, with dignity, on a horse, holding a hat in his right hand and reins in his left. The author of the monument, sculptor Gyö rgy Vastag, owns another work, also located on Castle Hill - a monument to the Hungarian hussar Andrá s Hadik. During the battles for the liberation of Budapest in 1944, the monument was badly damaged and dismantled, and the bronze statue was melted down. In 1990, the monument to Arthur George was recreated by the famous sculptor Laszlo Marton.
