Monastery of the Blessed Virgin

Dominican monastery Saint Margaret
Hungary, Budapest
The Monastery of the Blessed Virgin was built by the Hungarian King Béla IV in the middle of the 13th century on Hare Island. The monastery was built for the king's daughter Margarita, where she was sent to study with the Dominicans. In 1541, the Dominican monastery was captured by the Turks, as a result of which it was destroyed and plundered. However, a year later, the local authorities restored the ruins of the monastery and a small chapel, and a tombstone dedicated to St. Margaret was erected nearby.

Walking around Margaret Island, you are unlikely to pass by a local attraction - the ruins of a Dominican monastery. Here, the daughter of King Bela IV, Margarita, who was given to the nun, died. She was canonized, and the island was named after her. The ruins are in good condition, despite the fact that they are freely accessible. A small bridge is installed above them so that those who wish can view the remains of the building from above. Not far from the ruins of the monastery is the Romanesque church of St.
