Bokar Citadel
Fort Bokar, Fort Bokar
Croatia, Dubrovnik
Bokar Citadel was built by the Florentine Michelozzo when the walls of Dubrovnik were being rebuilt from 1461 to 1463. The fortification was to become a key point in the defense of the gate from Pile, as the western fortified entrance to the city. The citadel became one of the main fortifications protecting the western approaches to the city. It was built as a three-storey casemate-type fortress, protruding in front of the plane of the city walls and rising in height with its almost cylindrical volume.
