Vergina is a small town in the Imathia prefecture in Central Macedonia. The town became known around the world in 1977, when the Greek archaeologist Manolis Andronikos unearthed what he believed to be the burial place of Macedonian rulers, including the tomb of Philip II, father of Alexander the Great.
