Pidna is a fortified city on the western shore of the Thermeian Gulf in the prefecture of Pieria, at the foot of Mount Olokra.
In ancient times, Pidna was of great importance as the most important port city of the Macedonian kingdom. Its ruins are located near the present city. In 1867, Pidna, as well as the Macedonian burials, were discovered and explored by the archaeologist Leon Heuse.
