Theater in Epidaurus

Asklepios of Epidaurus, Epidaurus Theatre, Sanctuary of Asklepios at Epidaurus
Greece, Peloponnese
The theater at Epidaurus is the best-preserved of the ancient Greek theatres, still functioning and distinguished by its exceptional acoustics and aesthetics. Located in the Asklepion of Epidaurus near the village of Ligurion.

It was built between 340 BC. e. and 330 BC e. and opened after excavations in the period 1870–1926. In 1938, the theater hosted the first performance after the archaeological work. In the early 50s, restoration work was carried out in order to be able to receive a larger number of spectators, and since 1955 a theater festival has been held in Epidaurus, every summer showing performances on the stage of the ancient theater.

The place is interesting, very untwisted. And not in vain. The theater is large, having visited it, in the future many similar ancient theaters will no longer impress (verified). The views around are also very beautiful, orange groves. If you go by car, then you can swim along the way - the sea is not far away. Also, as almost always in Greece, in addition to the main dish, the theater, there is also a museum and a huge area of ruins where you can wander aimlessly, marvel at the scale and condition of the preserved antiquities.

Epidaurus is a whole complex dedicated to Dionysus. Previously, there was not only a theater here, but also a hospital. Here they came up with the idea of treating with snake venom, in a word, physical exercises and proper nutrition. In the unique amphitheater, dramatic performances are still held, but not in ancient, but in modern Greek. On the sides there were columns from the gate, through which the actors used to go on stage. The theater is famous for its excellent acoustics and seats 12.
