Resting in Greece, we decided to dilute our beach holiday and visit the "hanging" monasteries of Meteora, which are the pride of Greece. The tour lasted almost from early morning until late at night. We drove quite a long way (about 4 hours one way) to the settlement of Kalambaka, which is located at the foot of strange mountain fragments, similar to fingers stretched to the sky, on which the monasteries are located. They are also called the stone forest of the Thessalian plain.
"Kalambaka" means in Greek "Come and see! ". This is truly an indescribable sight! Even after looking at the photos of monasteries on the Internet many times, it is impossible even to compare them with what you see with your own eyes. We visited the monastery of the Holy Trinity, which was built in the 15th century, the building of which has a cruciform shape.
Until 1888, the monks climbed into it on a rope ladder, and they lifted food and necessary equipment from the surface of the earth using a special wooden lift that moves on cables.
We were delighted with the tour and we recommend everyone who will be in Greece to visit this wonderful place.
