Mosque of Haji Hasan
Loggia Mosque, Hadji Hassan mosque
Greece, Kos
The Haji Hassan Mosque or Loggia with a high minaret is located opposite the Hippocratic plane tree. The mosque was built in 1786 from the stones of the ancient city.
Hadji Hassan was the governor of the Ottoman Empire on the island of Kos. For the construction of the mosque, he chose a place where there were already ancient buildings and a source from which water was subsequently taken for ablution. The mosque was built in 1765; a minaret rose next to it.
The Hadji Hassan Mosque is one of the quite popular attractions of the island of Kos. Excursions are organized here, and inside the old building you can buy souvenirs in a special shop. In the evenings, the minaret is beautifully illuminated with lights.
