Mount Pantokrator
Mount Pantokrator
Greece, Corfu
Mount Pantokrator, at 906 meters above sea level, is the highest peak on the island of Corfu. It rises in the northeastern part of the island. From the top of the mountain, not only the entire island of Corfu, but also neighboring Albania is clearly visible. On the clearest days, you can even see Italy, which lies 130 km away. A narrow road with many sharp turns leads to the peak, at the top there is a cafe, a telecommunications station and a monastery. The first monastery on this site was built in 1347 and destroyed around 1537. The Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord, which now exists here, was founded in 1689, and its facade dates from the 19th century.
