Amnis is a Bronze Age settlement in northern Crete, used as the port of Knossos, the capital of the Minoan kingdom. Amnis is mentioned already in the earliest known ancient Greek literary sources, as well as in mythology, but arose much earlier, in prehistoric times. Excavations in 1932 yielded a number of important discoveries, including the Lily House Villa, a structure named after the main motif of the frescoes that adorn its walls.
