The Venetian harbor of Chania, built during the Venetian rule, is one of the most visited tourist destinations in this Cretan city. On the shores of the harbor there are many cafes and taverns, as well as cruise boats, where you can go on exciting sea excursions. The harbor, designed for 40 galleys, was built by the Venetians in 1356. At the entrance to the harbor was built Fortress Firkas, near which is the Cretan Maritime Museum. It was in the fortress of Firkas in December 1913 that a flag was raised in honor of the unification of Greece with the island of Crete.→
