The Maritime Museum of Crete is located right at the entrance to the fortress of Firkas. It was established by the administration of the Crete Navy with the support of regional and municipal authorities. The museum was founded to promote and preserve the maritime traditions of the island, which were one of the important sources of its economy. It presents exhibits that relate to all significant periods in the history of Crete. The opening of the museum was timed to the 32nd anniversary of the Battle of Crete with the participation of its founder - Vice Admiral Jannopoulos, who at that time served as commander of logistics of the Navy in Chania.→
