It is the only Orthodox church in Greece that has a minaret in addition to the bell tower. Built in the Venetian period around 1320, the church was part of a Dominican monastery. After the capture of the city by the Turks, the temple was converted into a mosque and was named Hiugkar Tsamisi (Emperor's Mosque) in honor of the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire. The importance of the temple was emphasized by the two balconies on the minaret. Since 1928, the church of St. Nicholas again belongs to Orthodox Christians, and the minaret was left in memory of the rule of the Turks. You can visit the church any day in appropriate clothes.

On the facade of the church there is a marble plaque, which reminds that this temple was turned into a mosque during the Turkish occupation of the city and on February 18.1918 it was returned to the service of Christ and consecrated by Archbishop Agafaggel Ninolakis.
