The thermal lake is located on the southern coast of Attica, about 21 km from the center of Athens, next to the sea. Previously, it was called Eschatiotis or Gorgopida, that was the name of the mother of King Megarius who drowned here. According to legend, the lake was the favorite bathing place of the goddess Athena herself.
Vouliagmeni Lake is known for the healing properties of its water. The temperature fluctuates between 20 and 27 degrees Celsius throughout the year. Water contains minerals, metals, mainly hydrogen sulfide. The thermal properties of the lake help in the treatment of rheumatism, gynecological and skin diseases such as arthritis, joint problems, eczema and headaches.
The beach around the lake is well organized, there are sun loungers and umbrellas, and there is also a cafe. Hydrotherapy services are provided on the lake.
