The Temple of Hephaestus or Hephaestion in Athens is the best preserved Greek ancient temple. This is a Doric temple located on the northwestern side of the Athenian Agora. It was built in the period 449-415 BC. and was dedicated to the god Hephaestus. The architect is unknown, but this is the same architect who built the temple at Cape Sounion and the temple of Ares at the Agora. From the 7th century until 1834, it served as the Orthodox Church of St. George, then it was declared a national monument.
