Tbilisi has both a cable car and a funicular. The second one, as they say, is not for everyone, and inquisitive tourists need to master the ropeway by all means! Moreover, finding it is extremely simple: the lower station is located in Rike Park, next to the European Square, the upper one is near the Narikala fortress and the Mother Georgia (Mother Kartli) sculpture.
Cabins can accommodate 6-8 people. They are exactly the same as on the famous cable car connecting Nizhny Novgorod and Bor. But if the trip across the Volga takes about 13 minutes, then the transfer over the Kura is only 4. One way fare is 2.5 GEL. At the exchange rate for February 2019, this is about 65 rubles. There is a ticket office at the entrance where you can buy a MetroMoney card. It is valid for all public transport in Tbilisi, including the cable car. By the way, this card does not work on the funicular.
We bought a MetroMoney card at the airport, because from there we went to the city by bus number 37.
On the way back, we handed it over at the representative office of the Bank of Georgia. And the rest of the money was returned to us. Very handy card!
Let us return, however, to the cable car. From the cabin during a short transfer, wonderful views of the city open up. It's a pity that such a trip doesn't last long...: ) Tourists are usually met on the top platform by two brave musicians in national clothes. They play, to the delight of the public, everything that is possible. With us, they delighted the audience, moving from a Georgian melody to one of Shnur's most popular hits.
We preferred to return back not on the cant, but on foot through the Narikala fortress and the area of the famous Abanotubani sulfur baths.
I will add that my colleague and I filmed the process of the trip by cable car to Tbilisi. You can watch it on my account (Alexander Ratner) in youtube.
