Bethlem cave
Betlemi, Bethlehem cave
Georgia, Gudauri
Betlemi is a cave located on the massif of Mount Kazbek, at an altitude of about 4100 meters above sea level. The entrance to the cave is carved into the red andesitic sheer rock at a height of 350-400 meters from the base.
In 1947, a Soviet climber found a cave carved into the rock high on the slopes of Kazbek. It was locked with iron gates. Items from the 10th century and coins from the 15th century were found inside. Georgian monks have been serving in the cave in the strictest climatic conditions for centuries.
