Argonauts Square

In the center of Batumi is Argonauts Square (or Europe Square). For a long time, the main decoration of this square was the monument to Princess Medea of ​​Colchis, who was kidnapped by Jason a long time ago. Medea is depicted holding the Golden Fleece in her hands.

Relatively recently, the design of the square has changed a bit. Antique-styled clocks, a fountain made in the form of the flag of the united Europe, and interesting lamps appeared here. There is a huge information stand dedicated to the Argonauts on the square. The houses located around the square were built in the 18th century and are architecturally interesting.

Argonauts Square is often used for celebrations. It is well lit and therefore great for walking in the evening.

Interesting for photography lovers
A very "European" place, photogenic, you want to spend time here and take a lot of pictures. The monument to Medea is not unambiguous for me from a historical point of view. As you know, Medea, in love, helped Jason and the Argonauts, actually betraying her father and the country. Jason took her with him, stealing the Golden Fleece. She even killed her brother on the road (he went with them). She was a witch, did a lot of terrible things. Jason soon left her. Then she killed her sons from Jason..→
