Cathedral of the Holy Mother of God
Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Georgia, Batumi
Batumi Catholic Church was built in 1902. On the sides of the central entrance to the church are the statues of the first heralds of Christianity in Georgia: St. Simon the Canonite and St. Andrew the First-Called.
This cathedral was one of the best churches in the Caucasus. However, in 1937 it was badly damaged, and was restored only in 1989. With the blessing of the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II, the temple was returned to the Batumi people, who consecrated it and turned it into an Orthodox Cathedral of the Most Holy Theotokos. The modern building of the cathedral was built in the Gothic style. For its construction, a special stone was used, which, depending on the weather, can change color.
