Batumi Botanical Garden

Batumi Botanical Garden, Batumi Botanical Garden
Georgia, Batumi
The Batumi Botanical Garden is located on an area of 111 hectares, 9 km from Batumi near the Zeleny Mys railway station (in the village of Mtsvane-Kontskhi). It was one of the largest botanical gardens in the USSR.

It was founded by the Russian botanist and geographer Andrei Nikolaevich Krasnov, brother of General P. N. Krasnov, in 1880 and was officially opened on November 3, 1912. Krasnov considered the main task of the garden to be the acclimatization of economically valuable subtropical plants and their introduction into cultivation in the southern regions of Russia.

At the beginning of the 21st century, it consisted of nine floristic divisions: the humid subtropics of Transcaucasia, New Zealand, Australia, Himalayan, East Asian, North American, South American, Mexican and Mediterranean. The collection of living plants includes over 5 thousand species, varieties and forms, including about 2 thousand species of trees and shrubs.

We went to Georgia in August 2017. I really liked the country! Sea of impressions! We were in Tbilisi, lived in Kabuleti, walked around Batumi. If you go from Kabuleti to Batumi, then on the way you must definitely stop by the Botanical Garden. The road is not hard to find. Especially if you go by bus. The entrance to the Botanical Garden cost 8 GEL (in my opinion). The territory of the garden is huge - 13 hectares! For those who do not want to walk for half a day or the whole day, you can take a special open bus.

One of the best botanical gardens I've ever been to. 113 hectares of greenery, real jungle! Subtropical plants are very different from ours. The green color is so bright that it seems that you can shoot films about Tarzan in this garden)). The only negative is the very high humidity, only hardy tourists can walk in the garden for a long time. It is also better to take some water with you, there are no stalls in the garden.

I almost committed a crime - don't let this headline scare you. Crimes in general 2)) Imagine that I still could not get into this wonderful park. There are no words, they are all in photographs and in memory. And the second crime...It's hard to believe, but they fine you for harming plants, even if you want to pick a flower for yourself. Imagine that a moment before I wanted to do it, another girl did it. The administration of the botanical garden (and they are dressed like policemen) immediately approached her (I don’t know where they came from at all).

1) Location: The BBS extends on the mountain cascade or otherwise on the mountain terraces. My wife and I were very surprised, the botanical gardens in which we were located on the plain. 2) Variety of plants: I really liked the shy violet, the abundance of varieties of bamboo, chestnut (which we do not grow with a huge number of thorns resembling hedgehogs). 3) The highlight of the BBS, in our opinion, is the Japanese Park with beautiful bamboo bridges with ponds and Bonsai. 4) Cleanliness and grooming 5) Availability of free toilets on site 6) Open access to the sea My wife and I recommend visiting the BBS to anyone who wants to enjoy the unique Botanical Garden.

Well-groomed large territory, pleasant smells of the sea and flowers, beautiful plants, palm trees, cypresses. A real resort botanical garden with sea views and cozy benches. The abundance of plants is impressive, there are signs with inscriptions everywhere, which allows you not to get lost. The park is huge, a whole day won't be enough. Highly recommend!
